male 20's

Don't be afraid to talk to people, especially if you live with them! At first, some people in the house seemed intimidating or very different from my friends, but if someone is open to a chat once a while, a real bond can form

I have a lot of great memories with the Kamigamo members. We shared food, learned about each other’s cultures and languages, and sometimes watched movies together. We enjoyed parties and hung out together, so I never felt alone during my study abroad.

Living at a Borderless House is such a great opportunity to meet and make friends with people from all over the world, and to experience life in Japan together with them. I enjoyed my stay very much at Tamatsukuri (as well as at other borderless houses I have stayed at previously), and I would strongly recommend Borderless House to anyone!

Amy

I’ve had a great time at Borderless House. I’ve been studying as a foreign exchange student, and I am so glad I decided to move into a share house rather than an international dormitory. It gives more opportunities to interact with Japanese people, and make friends from all over the world. If you are coming as an exchange student, I recommend a share house over a dormitory, as you’ll have many fun experiences and opportunities!

Emelyn

female 20's

I loved living in this house. The best part was definitively my housemates, who were very welcoming. We could eat and chat together, and sometimes, do activities too. If you want to learn how to japanese, it's also a nice way to do that. All of us in the house were trying to mostly speaking in japanese, and I learned a lot that way.

The most impressive aspect was the opportunity to live with people from different countries and cultural backgrounds. Through daily conversations, shared meals and activities I was able to learn about different perspectives and ways of life that I would not have experienced otherwise. For future tenants : Just be open minded and everything else will come automatically!

Borderless House is the perfect place to stay if you look for a place to connect with locals and also people from other nationalities. Since it is a shared house, it is also a very affordable accommodation. The common space is large, cosy and made for community with the housemates. Especially if you are learning Japanese it's very valuable to live together with Japanese people. I loved the community with my housemates since it made me feel like home. I have a lot of friends that lived in other accommodations (private apartments, host family, ...) and nothing was as good as what I could experience at Borderless house. The location, the people, the prize, the amount of space in the house. Everything just makes this a good place to stay.

It's a great experience, especially Hanazono1, it has beautiful surroundings and great people. It was the first time I shared a room with someone and I didn't expect it to be so nice and unproblematic (which is also because of my lovely roommate) and thanks to it I've also learned more Japanese and was able to teach a bit of English :).

If you are looking for a nice and open-minded community to join you on some activities or to inspire you on doing things you would not think of yourself, please go ! I had amazing times with many different people and felt very home with them all. It really felt like a new family within a month

I think staying at Borderless is a great way to meet new people, both for international folks coming to Japan and meeting Japanese people, but also for Japanese people to learn more about other cultures and meeting people from all around the world (and most of them know at least a little Japanese or want to learn, so the language barrier is not very high!).

DUBIK

Compared to stories I've heard from people staying with other share house companies, I feel like living in Saiin-2 was closer to a homestay experience. The house is not too big, not too small and offers pretty much everything you might need for a short or long stay. It's been a very comfortable 2 years for me.

The best experience of my life! A very nice area, from where you can easily get to everything: the castle, the Korean quarter, the supermarket, the shop, the Kura sushi bar, the metro station, the pharmacy, the railway stations, so it's very convenient here. Very nice people live here, with whom I spent these wonderful 3 months!

If you're thinking about staying at Borderless House - just do it! The facilities are amazing, and there is a strong emphasis on community here. These aren't just your housemates or staff - they're your friends. I am ever grateful for Borderless House for pushing me out of my comfort zone and allowing me to try a completely new experience entirely.

It’s a good opportunity to meet new people from around the world and learn more about Japan also. It’s a good chance to experience living alone also as you are not completely alone, but do keep in mind that there are rules to follow and places to be kept clean to assure a good living together

Maxim

male 20's

I think it’s a great idea to go a step beyond just a basic greeting when you run into other residents in the house. Even if you're not confident in your English, trying to strike up a small conversation can make a huge difference. Sometimes people might seem a bit distant or 'cold' due to language barriers or simply because they're in 'off mode' at home. However, if you actually take that small step to reach out, it usually leads to a much better connection—both in that moment and for your future relationship together!

female 30's

Callie

female 20's

Being able to speak openly and honestly with housemates to learn about each other's cultures, work through small conflicts, manage household responsibilities, and just have fun together made my stay at Waseda1 a very positive and wonderful experience. Whether or not this house becomes a home depends on the effort you're willing to put into it. I think the more effort that tenants put into caring for the house and getting along with housemates, the better and more fulfilling their stay here will be.

Aurora

I really love the connections fostered both within the house and between houses through events, I feel like I've made so many friends! I think I've changed my way of thinking in making friends with people that I otherwise would not have, and become more accepting of different ways of thinking.

Fanny

If you're looking for a warm, welcoming and fun sharehouse in Tokyo, you should choose Honancho House! I made lifelong friends here during my stay in Japan, and core memories that I will forever cherish. This house really felt like home and I will be missing the atmosphere a lot!

DOHYEON

male 20's

Everyone here is so nice and fun. Especially if you are a person who love hanging out, then you should check out Borderless House.

James

male 30's

Make an effort to interact with your housemates, put aside some time at night if you have to. It will strengthen not just your own relationships but the other housemates' relationships with each other. When you socialize you make everyone more sociable, when you speak you make it so much easier for others to speak, when you smile you make it almost impossible not to smile. Act first, don't wait. The world is shy.

Teresa

female 20's

It’s an amazing way to live in japan and connect with Japanese and international people. You never feel alone, you have time to practice Japanese, learn about other cultures and have some drinks together over a nice bbq. Borderless house feels like a warm hug to me, I always appreciated coming home.

Lisa

female 20's

I got the chance to talk with both Japanese people and foreigners, learning about the culture directly from them, enjoying foods and great times, traveling, helping each other out with language learning... Thanks to my housemates, I was able to progress quickly in Japanese, passing N3 in less than 2 years. We traveled to many places, Hokkaido, Chubu... I have made amazing friends for life.

Mads

male 20's

I highly recommend it. You have your own key to your room, so when you want privacy you can stay in your room, and when you want to be with people there are always most definitely someone in the living room. When you want something to eat, you can always ask in the group-chat and people will join. The company Borderless itself arranges tons of parties and programs themselves which you can join and get to know people from other Borderless houses. There is also a lot of paperwork to be done throughout your stay here with the Japanese government, and I always found it helpful to have Japanese people around me to help me with it- as it is all in Japanese. You also learn the language by living with Japanese people.

Myungjin

The district of Kichijoji has been a real surprise for me, and is, in my opignion, one of the best for living on a long term-period in Tokyo.

Mona

I have been enjoying getting to know everyone and becoming closer friends. Overall it has been an amazing experience, but I am definitely glad I opted to have my own single as sometimes private space to be alone in is very important.

Katharina

I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to stay at a Borderless Share House. It’s been such a special experience - I had the chance to meet amazing people from all over the world and even made some real friends along the way. My only advice would be to keep an open mind, communicate openly to avoid any cultural misunderstandings, and most importantly: have fun!

Okan

male 20's

Try to be open to new experiences! Borderless House has many events that are worth joining if you have the time. Other than that, be considerate and clean and be open with your opinions.

Tamlyn

female 20's

I felt really lucky with my housemates and even the location of the house. I thought that living alone would be the best but I met great people and did things I wouldn’t have done alone.

Crisostomo

male 30's

A lot of people usually look at the state of the house first before considering it. Togoshi house looks old, not gonna lie. But it’s not really about appearances - it’s all about the people you live with! And Togoshi house has the best people. I’ve met the best housemates whom I consider friends even when they’ve already moved out.

Diana

female 20's

Going on a road trip together was the most fun and impressive thing we did, we organized everything together and were able to visit a lot of places and made a lot of memories, my tip for newcomer is to try to propose and organize fun activites together that everyone can enjoy

David

I think the most valuable thing of this ahúse is that there are Japanese people living in here as well. That creates an opportunity to practice the Japanese and get to know locals. Even though you can do it outside, sometimes is not that easy.

If you’re coming to borderless house take the opportunity to talk to as many people as possible. This type of share house attracts a lot of interesting people, so make the most of it!

Raquel

female 20's

Getting to know people from all around the world taught me a lot about different cultures. Living with a large group of people also made me more conscious of the importance of taking care of shared spaces.

Sarah

female 20's

I'm a really shy person and was a bit nervous about the idea of living in a sharehouse and being around so many new people. But everyone here is so friendly and welcoming. If you have the opportunity to go out with your housemates, whether it's to have dinner or sing karaoke, definitely go do it, even if you're shy. I'll never forget all the fun memories I've made with everyone at Borderless Sendai. If I had chosen to live in a single apartment, I don't think I would have had as positive an experience.

Most of the people at Sendai House right now have been living here for quite a long time, so you can really count on them to help you get started, whether it’s finding the important places to know nearby, sightseeing spots, or good restaurants. Everyone cooperates, which feels very nice and much more human. It also makes it easier to build a network of friends or even useful connections for your career, compared to bigger cities like Tokyo or Kyoto (I actually found my job thanks to the help of a housemate).

XINYANG

Hahmann

Living at Borderless House was a great experience. All the tenants I know so far are really friendly and welcoming. I think if you are moving in to a Borderless House you should be open minded and interested in meeting new people. It is also always nice to be engaged in activities and also suggest some ideas. Because it was my first time in Japan it was very helpful for me to hear about the experiences from the tenants that are in Japan for a longer duration and get some tips from them.
